Join us tomorrow for this week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson on “Doctrine of Atonement.” It highlights the journey of human consciousness from slavery to checklists and rituals to spiritual obedience resulting in freedom and healing!
The fourth section contains the story of Jesus healing a man unable to walk for thirty-eight years at the pool of Bethesda. Commentary on this story of healing found in the book “Notes on the Miracles of Our Lord” by Richard Chenevix Trench brings out an important point, “With reason the law through Moses was given, grace and truth through Jesus Christ has come to pass. Moses wrote five books, but in the five porches round the pool, sick men were lying, but they could not be healed…For in those five porches, a figure of the five books, sick men were given over rather than made whole…The Lord came, the water was troubled; He was crucified, let the sick man step down that he may be made whole. What is, let him step down? Let him humble himself? Therefore whosoever ye be that love the letter without grace, in the porches will ye remain…” (279).
We look forward to diving into a deep explication of this topic given by our Pastor, The Holy Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. We’ll be at The Eastern Bank, 687 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, MA beginning at 10:30 AM. The hymns for tomorrow will be 148, 42, and 165 in case you want to practice that pretty singing of yours. 🙂
There will be a reading of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) directly following our meeting for any who want to stay at join. The inspiration for this comes from our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy’s statement in the Message to the Mother Church, 1901,
“To my sense the Sermon on the Mount, read each Sunday without comment and obeyed throughout the week, would be enough for Christian practice. The Word of God is a powerful, and it is not too spiritual to be practical, nor too transcendental to be heard and understood” (11: 16-21).
ALSO – some of our members are involved in a community orchard event beginning at 1:00 PM at Egleston Community Orchard (ECO), 195 Boylston St., Jamaica Plain, MA. If you’re in the area YOU’RE INVITED! Here’s the link with more information: www.meetup.com/urban-homesteaders-league/events/85497492
