In church, let your authenticity shine

A recent piece published in the Washington Post explains that millennials aren’t looking for a flashy church. The title of the article boasts the mandate, “Stop trying to make church ‘cool'”. As much as we think popularity wins the game in today’s world, there’s an important role that authenticity plays in showing people what you’re all about.

We can appreciate this point of view at JP Church. We’re grateful for the emphasis that Christian Science places on living your faith, and letting your life attest to your sincerity. We’d love to have you join us in prayer, music and fellowship any Sunday morning or Wednesday evening when we meet.

Tomorrow we’ll be in the park for our church service!

Prayer this Sunday

Lord, do not hold back your mercy from me;
    let your love and truth always protect me.
Troubles have surrounded me;
    there are too many to count.
My sins have caught me
    so that I cannot see a way to escape.

    Hurry, Lord, to help me.

let those who follow you
    be happy and glad.
They love you for saving them.
    May they always say, “Praise the Lord!”

Redemption

It can be easy to own our shortcomings.  To beat ourselves up for mistakes, to live in the drama of our plight, to identify with a flaw can be so seductive.  But it ain’t how it is!

We were made good by God, good.

Come hear our pastor’s sermon, where we’ll be learning about this goodness and how our knowledge of us can help us notice and remove all these false notions of mistakes, disease, and sinful thoughts, and thereby experience our already-present pure goodness.

As the psalmist wrote,

Everything God does is right—
    the trademark on all his works is love.

Ps. 145:17 (MSG)
