In church, let your authenticity shine

A recent piece published in the Washington Post explains that millennials aren’t looking for a flashy church. The title of the article boasts the mandate, “Stop trying to make church ‘cool'”. As much as we think popularity wins the game in today’s world, there’s an important role that authenticity plays in showing people what you’re all about.

We can appreciate this point of view at JP Church. We’re grateful for the emphasis that Christian Science places on living your faith, and letting your life attest to your sincerity. We’d love to have you join us in prayer, music and fellowship any Sunday morning or Wednesday evening when we meet.

Tomorrow we’ll be in the park for our church service!

Today, friends, I simply share with you these wonderful words from 1 John 3:1-2.

[[ What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to.

But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. ]]

-from Eugene Peterson’s translation of the Bible, The Message

Let yourself soak in this idea.

Sharing another good resource. (Plus: church @ Spontaneous Celebrations again!)

So there have been a few posts on this blog over the past few months that have promoted various episodes of this audio series—but I can’t help but share another one… they’re just so good.

In the live audio chat from this afternoon, some topics covered include: freedom from pornography, supporting a healthier worldwide view of women/womanhood, responses to a wide variety of questions about sex and sexuality, combatting apathy or laziness… and several other topics.

All topics were addressed from a healing perspective, and with the goal of learning more about our unfallen, unbroken selves… that is, as we were made by a God who is actually just Love itself.

Listen to the Q&A chat here:Breaking free from sensuality” – with Tony Lobl, a Christian Science practitioner.

(And you can always tune in while these chats are happening live, too, and can send in your own questions.  See the links above to find out more.)

Finally, see below for the info about tonight’s temporary church location.  We’ll be at Spontaneous Celebrations once again.  The time of the service (7:35pm EST), as well as our call-in phone number, are the same as usual.  And as usual, all are lovingly welcome.

All love,

the C.S. Society of JP

We’ll be back at the Eastern Bank community room this Sunday!

Love each other, cus love is what God is.

(paraphrase of 1 John 4:7.)

This week, the Lesson-Sermon has focused on God as the quality of Love.

it also says that it’s got to be practical – that is, Love (i.e. God) isn’t fanciful, but something to see & do every day of our lives.

That’s kinda what we’re all working on, basically all the time.  We’ll be at the Eastern Bank community room (687 Centre St, JP) tomorrow, affirming these ideas (among others) in prayer together.

Service goes from 10:35-11:35, EST.  You can also call in (605-475-4000 x.636128), or Skype in (just friend-request/message us at a few minutes beforehand).  We don’t always have Skype available, but we will tomorrow.

Wherever you are… there’s love and peace for you.
