Do right, fear not

Gather with us this evening as we consider a few Beatitudes and hear from one another on how we’ve been putting our faith into practice this week. #Allarewelcome

(location and call-in info below)

“God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”

An indispensable question

The question, “What is Truth,” convulses the world.

-Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 223

It’s a question people are all learning more about – including the folks who call this church our home.  For our part, we’re coming together in the morning to consider it more.

Wherever you are, you’re welcome to attend this service & take part in this with us.  (We’ve got a call-in line, so this is literally possible from just about any location.)

Love,

the Christian Science Society of JP!  🙂

-An hour of singing, contemplative prayer, readings from the Bible and Science and Health, and pure Love.

In person or call-in, you’re invited just the same

Tonight, we’re in our usual spot!  Details below.  Come join in for a Love-filled, peaceful, un-pressured time.  Those attending will learn together about how Christian Science has been working for us in our lives, and we’ll be able to listen to each other – and share our own experiences, if so moved – as well as listen to readings from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and sing a few hymns together.

If you’re familiar with this church & blog, you may know that we’ve got a call-in line.  Like our services, this is super low-key.  (Some people call in and just listen; there’s no pressure to participate.  We always love knowing who’s joining us from around the country & world, though, so it’s always fun when people say who they are & where they’re from.   We love for you to know who we are, too.)

Calling in can be a great way to get a feel for what our services are like, and it’s the way that some of our callers always attend church.  Like our in-person services, all are welcome.

You are loooooooved!

Sermon on Life – you’re welcome to stop in!

Hi all… just a quick note to let you know that we’ll be back to our usual spot at the Eastern Bank (address and other details below) for today’s Sunday service.  If you’d like to listen in via the phone line, you still can for sure.  It’ll be wonderful to have you there, both those in person and those on the phone.  All you’ll need is your love and humility! 😉  The sermon will be focused on Life.

All love,

the good folks at the C.S. Society of JP

Love’s got ya.

Hi there friend,

Tomorrow, this church will be having its regular Wednesday testimony meeting.  You are invited to stop by, or to call into the service and listen – exactly as you are.  Right now.

“The desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.  It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing.”

Love is here for you.

Today: God!

Happy New Year!  Check out the bottom of the post for details on location/time/call-in #.

A quick note about this morning’s Lesson-Sermon: it’s broadly on the topic of God.

More specifically, there’s a lot about praising God.  From a Christian Science perspective, it’s helpful to think about what’s being praised here.  What does Christian Science mean when it says “God”?

A few useful ways to think about God—actually, what Mary Baker Eddy (who founded the Christian Science church) names as terms synonymous of God—are these:

Principle
Mind
Soul
Spirit
Life
Truth
Love

That is… not a dude in the sky someplace.  Not an opinionated overseer.  But Life itself.  Love itself.  Spirit itself.

Just a quick little bit of food for thought!

All love, and happiest of New Years,

the JP Church clerk

Sharing, support, love – tonight

Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know: this church’ll be having a beautiful, soulful meeting tonight that you might want to know about. It’s our Wednesday night meeting, and it’s open to anyone (on the phone and in person)—whether you’ve known about Christian Science for a long time, or just found out about it today… or anywhere else on that spectrum.

This service, and the members of this church, are about Christian healing—sharing our experiences, supporting each other as we grow & learn, and expecting that people will experience healing during the church services. We’re expecting that tonight, too!

More info about the time/location/call-in number are at the end of this post.

Have a beautiful day,
-the JP Church clerk

All the church! Tonight, Thanksgiving, and supporting our world in prayer

Three things:

1 – Tonight.  Wednesday testimony meeting is still on, despite the nor’easter that’s been gently delivering rain/snow/hail all day.  We’ll be warmly ensconced in the Eastern Bank community room, and we’ll have our phone line as usual (info @ the bottom) for those who aren’t able to make it in person.

2 – Tomorrow = Thanksgiving!  We’re hosting a joint thanksgiving service with our sister church, Third Church of C.S., Boston.  It’ll be happening at 10:00am – half hour earlier than usual – @ the Nate Smith House, 155 Lamartine St, JP (map):

Thanksgiving in JP 2014 -1Thanksgiving in JP 2014 -2

You can call in on our regular line, too!  We won’t do phone intros as usual (only because of the number of in-person folks we’ll have).  However, if you call in, you’ll be more than welcome to share your Thanksgiving gratitude during testimony time.  We’ll make sure you can hear others who share in the room, too.  Call in early if you’d like so we can say hi.  🙂

And if you’d like to read the Thanksgiving lesson in advance, here it is: http://christianscience.com/bible-lessons/thanksgiving/thanksgiving

3 – Every day = a day for peace and love.  If you’ve been following the news in the US about Ferguson, MO, you might be wondering if there’s anything you can do.  As a fellow Christian Scientist said in response, “no prayer falls to the ground.” (see 34:55-40:20 of this program)

Taking all of our hopes & wishes for humanity and giving them over God – the one big Love, who’s above varied opinions or human tragedy or any horrible “-isms”… the great protector and equalizer – is something we can all do right now.  This isn’t ignorance or blindness… it’s most definitely a form of activism.

If you’d like to see how some others have been praying, one place to look is http://time4thinkers.com/prayerwatch-ferguson-verdict/.  You can read and share your own prayerful ideas, too.

That’s all for now.  Love each other, stay warm.  🙂

Hey.  Let’s get together tonight… just to share how we’re overcoming the world

Open the door.

I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.

-from Revelation 3:8, 20-21
New International Version

The admission to one’s self that man is God’s own likeness sets man free to master the infinite idea. This conviction shuts the door on death, and opens it wide towards immortality. The understanding and recognition of Spirit must finally come, and we may as well improve our time in solving the mysteries of being through an apprehension of divine Principle.

-from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
p. 90

Our pastor’s giving a sermon tomorrow morning on the subject of “probation after death,” from the perspective Christian Science offers.  (see the corresponding verses above for an idea of what that is.)

And despite the subject sounding a bit heavy, rest assured: the only real theme is Love.  You can expect to feel loved when you come.  You can expect to feel even more loved, more refreshed, more healthy when you leave.

(p.s. as always, the phone is open – you can tune into the service from wherever you are.  Check out the phone # below.)

Peace to you!
