Exploring the deep things together

I had a chance to talk with a couple friends this weekend about some of the deeper things of life.  And I took away this sweet reminder – well, one of many – from our conversation: nothing can make the truth of life be any less true.  It’s all around us, currently… just waiting to be understood.  And, bit by bit, we each have the pleasure of exploring it more.

That’s what the Wednesday evening meetings are for.  They give us a chance to come together and share what we’ve proven about Life and Truth.  And it’s a time to cheer one another on.  We’re in this together… as it should be.

And with that, despite the snowy snow-snow from yesterday’s blizzard, church is on tonight!  We’ll be in our usual spot (details below); come join us in person or on the phone.

(Note: If you happen to be driving to the meeting tonight, it sounds like the bank parking lot is pretty well cleared!)

All love,

your pals at the C.S. Society of JP

An indispensable question

The question, “What is Truth,” convulses the world.

-Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 223

It’s a question people are all learning more about – including the folks who call this church our home.  For our part, we’re coming together in the morning to consider it more.

Wherever you are, you’re welcome to attend this service & take part in this with us.  (We’ve got a call-in line, so this is literally possible from just about any location.)

Love,

the Christian Science Society of JP!  🙂

In person or call-in, you’re invited just the same

Tonight, we’re in our usual spot!  Details below.  Come join in for a Love-filled, peaceful, un-pressured time.  Those attending will learn together about how Christian Science has been working for us in our lives, and we’ll be able to listen to each other – and share our own experiences, if so moved – as well as listen to readings from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and sing a few hymns together.

If you’re familiar with this church & blog, you may know that we’ve got a call-in line.  Like our services, this is super low-key.  (Some people call in and just listen; there’s no pressure to participate.  We always love knowing who’s joining us from around the country & world, though, so it’s always fun when people say who they are & where they’re from.   We love for you to know who we are, too.)

Calling in can be a great way to get a feel for what our services are like, and it’s the way that some of our callers always attend church.  Like our in-person services, all are welcome.

You are loooooooved!

Love’s got ya.

Hi there friend,

Tomorrow, this church will be having its regular Wednesday testimony meeting.  You are invited to stop by, or to call into the service and listen – exactly as you are.  Right now.

“The desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.  It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing.”

Love is here for you.

Sharing, support, love – tonight

Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know: this church’ll be having a beautiful, soulful meeting tonight that you might want to know about. It’s our Wednesday night meeting, and it’s open to anyone (on the phone and in person)—whether you’ve known about Christian Science for a long time, or just found out about it today… or anywhere else on that spectrum.

This service, and the members of this church, are about Christian healing—sharing our experiences, supporting each other as we grow & learn, and expecting that people will experience healing during the church services. We’re expecting that tonight, too!

More info about the time/location/call-in number are at the end of this post.

Have a beautiful day,
-the JP Church clerk

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” -Jesus

Hey.  Let’s get together tonight… just to share how we’re overcoming the world

And how we’re learning about overcoming the world.  And how God’s moving in our lives.  And how we can support one another as we each keep figuring it all out.

Testimony meeting tonight.  7:35pm, EDT.  Eastern Bank.  The door will be open.

(…that is, even if it’s actually physically closed – b/c the weather is cold! – someone will certainly open it for you.  Or will greet you warmly on the phone.)  🙂

More details about the service (what is a testimony meeting?), location, call-in number, etc. are all given below.

a place to support & be supported

In thinking in general about church services, I’ve appreciated that they’re a great place to go and get to know God a little bit better.  Of course, God isn’t confined to a space – being a presence, or, as Jesus puts it, spirit – so you can be getting to know this presence of good anywhere.  But churchtime is a unique arena for this, since people come together in church with this same goal.  We all want to know more about love, completeness, order, effect & cause, intelligence, safety… and church is a time when we can all hunker down together, to support each other in prayer and feel supported ourselves.

Taking it a step further, Mary Baker Eddy’s got a rad definition of “church” in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.  You might already know about it.  It’s the next level of church – beyond the level of church activities, and at the level of ideas.  Part of it says that church is “the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.”  There’s so much strength and universality in her statement, and, to me, it means that the strength of church goes with us wherever we are.

(You can read Eddy’s full definition of church here.  Lots of good food for thought.)

As always, one of our services is happening tonight, from 7:35-8:35 pm EDT.  You’re welcome to stop by – either virtually (on the phone @ 605-475-4000 x. 636128) or in person at the Eastern Bank community room (at 687 Centre St, Jamaica Plain).

Love!

Holdin’ each other up this Wednesday

Is life a struggle right now?  A string of victories?  Drudgery?  Some of each?  Whether what you need is comfort, solutions, radical turnaround, energy, perspective, or making the most of your progress, Love (which is a divine Principle) has got what you need, and we’ll hold you up and help you see it.  I know I’ve got my struggles and my successes, and so could use a little of all of those things, and I bet it’s not a stretch to guess that I’m not alone in that.  So let’s get together again this Wednesday evening and help each other to realize God’s magnificent love for us.  A good spot is 687 Centre St. in JP (or by phone at 1.605.475.4000 x636128), and let’s say 7:35pm EDT.  We’ll share some readings from some great books of wisdom, share some song, and share a bunch of testimonies about Love at work in our lives, peppered with questions, remarks, and prayer.  All are welcome, especially newcomers.  It’ll do you good, do me good, do everyone else there good… and then our uplifted thought won’t be able to hold back from doing good to our communities.  Sounds all fluffy-happy, but it works in amazing ways… come by and see 😉

Best to you,

jpchurch

Thanking you (yes, *you*) this Wednesday (NOTE: special location!)

JP is a lovely neighborhood.  A neighbor from a different neighborhood of mine (pictured below) is reminding me to be grateful.  And you know whom I’m grateful for?  You.  You who receive this blog.  Some of you attend jpchurch in person, some on the phone, some regularly, some more spontaneously; some of you support us in thought; some read our emails; some are involved in our extra-church-y events.  Every form of that support is fostering the growth of this lovely little church, supporting our ability to bless our community (including you, including me).  The love makes it happen.  So thanks.

In gratitude, I invite you to a warm little meeting this Wednesday.  We’ll be partaking together in a bit of insight from the best books we know, we’ll be sharing gratitude, experiences, and thoughts of this reliable practice of Christianity that we’ve been learning about, we’ll be singing a bit, and we’ll be blessing each other.  We’d be delighted to have you!  It’ll begin at 7:35pm EST tonight (Wednesday) at 44 Robinwood Ave. (Apt. 3L) in Jamaica Plain, MA.  As always, phone access is at (605) 475-4000 x636128.

And as a reminder that’s always helpful to me, I give to you my neighbor:

thanks, Patrick Roddie!

With great fondness,

Your brother, Grant

Youth open mic night in JP!

It’s the First Friday of October, so the mic is open! Come by tonight at 7 to First Baptist Church in JP (633 Centre St.) to take part in an award-winning open mic!  It’s a safe, powerful place for honest expression, and honesty brings healing.  The toughest issues are addressed; grace and spirit are witnessed.  Secular or religious, your voice will be heard.  We cosponsor the event.  This month we’re featuring Amanda Torres and Louder than a Bomb.
